Summer Vacation - Days 1 and 2

We are excited to be leaving on our vacation to Colorado. I have only been there once before, many years ago and am excited to see it again and to visit with Brian. We had an added adventure to the start of our vacation when Dan had to have a root canal on the morning we left. Thankfully Dr. West was willing to come into his office of his day off and perform the procedure, thus sparing Dan the pain of having to deal with an aching tooth for the whole week. It barely even put us behind schedule. We left early afternoon, heading down to Altoona. Dee grilled us some great steaks that night and Mary cooked a delicious dinner to go with them. We had a nice time visiting with them. Saturday morning found us up to hot muffins and coffee before we headed out on our road trip.

Dan got a new toy for his birthday - a really cool GPS so we won't get lost.

We arrived in Grand Island, Nebraska early afternoon and decided to visit the Stuhr Museum, - a museum of prarie pioneers. It was very interesting with a railroad town all set up with businesses as you would have found them in the late 1800s.

They had some displays of produce grown on the prairie. This is a green bean - the Jolly Green Giant has a challenge to beat this.
This is the local dentist's office located inside the local hotel.
Get a look at these dental devices - Yikes. Dan was especially thankfull in view of his recent root canal that we have progressed in the area of dental care. I was asking "Where's the nitrous?".
Here is poor Dan - stuck in jail.

I sprung him loose while the sheriff next door was distracted.
This is inside the veternarian's quarters. This vet specialized in care of horses and this is an operating table for a horse.
We also visited the blacksmith, hardware store, the mill, the shoemaker, the dressmaker, post office and many other interesting places including several turn of the century homes. . They all looked very authenitice. However, the AED seemed a little out of place.

After spending the afternoon at the museum we topped off the day at the Valentino's buffet. It was very delicious. Tomorrow will be another adventure filled experience.
